Summary
The Pediatric Clinical Psychologist will work with pediatric populations who experience mental or physical health problems. These may include patients exhibiting anxiety and depression; serious and enduring mental illness; adjustment to physical illness; neurological disorders; addictive behaviors; eating disorders; behavior disorders; personal and family relationship problems, attention deficits, and learning disabilities.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • PhD in Clinical Psychology
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in medical psychology (Required)
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience with pediatrics (Preferred)
  • Licensed Psychologist in the State of Michigan, LLPC (Required)
  • Licensed Psychologist (Preferred)

Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations applicable to social work and child welfare

Knowledge of EMR systems

Essential Job Functions
  • Work with pediatric populations who experience mental or physical health problems. These may include patients exhibiting anxiety and depression; serious and enduring mental illness; adjustment to physical illness; neurological disorders; addictive behaviors; eating disorders; behavior disorders; personal and family relationship problems, attention deficits, and learning disabilities.
  • Assess a patient's needs, abilities, or behavior using a variety of methods, including psychometric tests, interviews, and direct observation of behavior.
  • Devise and monitor appropriate programs of treatment, and provide therapy for difficulties relating to psychiatric disorders, addictions, social and interpersonal problems, challenging behavior, and other behavioral or emotional problems.
  • Provide consultation to other professionals working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Consult with other professionals to evaluate patients' medical or physical condition and to assess client needs
  • Refer patient or family/caregivers to community resources to assist in recovery from mental or physical illness and to provide access to services such as financial assistance, legal aid, housing, job placement, or education
  • Provide crisis intervention.
  • Counsel patients and their family/caregivers in individual and group sessions to help them overcome dependencies, recover from illness, and adjust to life.
  • Advocate on behalf of the patient and family/caregivers on medical treatment and other services.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and record patient progress according to goals described in treatment plan.
  • Identify environmental impediments to patient progress through interviews and review of patient records
  • Organize support groups or counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting patients or their family/caregivers.
  • Counsel patients regarding substance use.
  • Refer clients to community or social service programs
  • Plan and conduct programs to combat social problems, prevent substance misuse, or improve community health and counseling services.
  • Oversee Medicaid-related paperwork and recordkeeping within the practice
  • Identify child abuse cases and take authorized protective action when necessary.
  • Maintain client records.
  • Regular and routine onsite attendance.
  • All other duties as assigned
